The speedometer drive gear is installed in the tailshaft on the drivers side. Look at part # 101 in the diagram. I have also attached a photo of a speedometer drive gear housing.

In other words, the hole in the bell-crank will be highest in 1st and lowest in about neutral. Cable should be somewhere in between the two.
