Ram 2500 stuck in 4th gear.

Jul 31, 2016 · 68RFE intermittent 1st and 4th with no DTC Codes. I have a 2008 Ram 2500 6.7L EFI Live on 35's with 72K miles it. The problem I am experiencing is that once this tranny issue is triggered as I am driving, I only have 1st and 4th gears. This issue goes away if I turn the truck off and restart it.

IIRC if it was reflashed to factory and was in limp mode, tuning with some tuners might not take it out of limp mode. The ECM might need to see itself out of limp mode, which would mean connecting the missing parts back on for it to see them to pop out of limp mode, and be tuned.

He said it's not exactly a common problem that they see but they have done plenty of valve bodies on the 66RFE and 68RFE with good success.

It didn’t go into 4WD auto but when I tried after restarting it went into 4WD low. Then the light came on again and it won’t switch out. Reset codes, unplugged battery for 15 minutes, light still on. Won’t change out. I checked the front axle lock cable extension and it’s good and added dielectric grease for good measure, still nothing.

The PCM sends a signal (at startup) to tell the Trans Relay to close, which then feeds 12V power to the trans. Might be best to have your dealer diagnose.
