The Benelli is the heaviest of all the pump shotguns, followed by Browning. The old Winchester 1300 are the lightest followed closely by Mossberg. Remingtons are right in the middle weight wise. (assuming comparable barrels and other features) They are good guns from a mechanical perspective, but handle like a fencepost.

I think they're better built than either the Remington or Mossberg. There are better stock options (pistol grip or ComforTech) on the SuperNova than the Nova (where the receiver and stock are one piece). You should be able to find a SuperNova for roughly $450. Without a doubt the Benelli has better quality than the Mosseberg. It's also easier to clean, can go longer between cleanings and is lighter in weight. The Mossberg is a decent gun for the money and you could do worse. Neither is a great choice for light target loads although the SBE II will cycle lighter field loads.

the Mossberg 500 and the 590 aren't really in the same category to be fair. The Supernova vs the 590 is a much more suitable comparison in my eyes. The Benelli being better balanced and much "nicer", whilst the 590 is built as tough as any gun I've ever seen. if clubbing an elephant to death is a consideration potentially, 590.
