At 6 weeks you are in that in between time, as the heartbeat typically starts anywhere between 5 1/2 and 6 1/2 weeks. If you are not comfortable and certain that this is not viable, have them wait another week or two then do another ultrasound. I have heard stories here like yours that had a happy ending. Mistakes can be made.

As far as i know the heartbeat should be visible by 6.5 weeks on ultrasound. I had a scan at 8.5 weeks after spotting last year and the baby was there but measured 6 weeks and there was no heartbeat, the sonographer said i may have had my dates wrong and the heart just had not quite started yet but i knew i was 8.5 weeks because i knew when i ovulated and we did not make love after that.
Hello! So I went last Wednesday to my first ultrasound. According to all my tracking I would have been 7+3 days. They measured me at 6+3 days. The was a gestational sac, yolk sac and embryo as measuring perfectly fine. The only thing is there was no heartbeat. I go back for another ultrasound on Thursday....I got a vaginal ultrasound at 9 weeks. I did hear a heartbeat with that so it was pretty cool. not the most fun experience but at least I got to see my baby. It's possible if there were two fetal poles in the same sac for another babe to pop up. That's a clear sac pic and just a little movement should have showed if there was more than one sac. It would be easier at 4/5 weeks than 6/7 to miss. Most mom's of twins will say they saw the second sac clear as day at 6 weeks. M.
