When I first dissassembled it I used the instruction manual on the remington web site for the 1100/11-87. They are similar enough that you should have no problem figuring it out. Basically you need to take off the barrel. then push out the two push pins.

1005 posts · Joined 2004. #2 · Jun 24, 2004. The 48s were good guns. They sort of pioneered the sloping rear design of autoloaders to match the lines of the pump guns. While they look like a gas operated 1100, underneath they are basically the long successful Browning recoil operated design.

The 11-48 was the five shot version. The Sportsman 48 was the three shot version. Both were made until the late 60s. Take a look at gunbroker. Either way, a different bbl will cost you. I am currently looking for a replacement for my grandad's sportsman 48 12 ga only because the bbl broke.
