Well I joined GMT 400 in Dec of 2013, newly divorced I did the one thing my X wouldn't let me do, BOUGHT A TRUCK! I bought a 215kmi 1997 Silverado 3dr. I have a stock 5.3, with stock manifolds. I used about 4" of the OE exhaust off the manifold, for the flanges and O2 bungs. The rest is 2.5 pipe, curved pieces from the scrap bin at an exhaust shop, off a 2010 Camaro. The straight sections are from the parts store. Two Dynomax race bullets.

If you can ls swap you can 8.1 swap both of mine are done with ls harness and pcm. You flip outer wires on cam,crank sensors. Move crank sensor wiring to area of cam sensor on ls harness. Move cam sensor circuit to timing cover area, with a striped harness you can do both without the need to extend wires.LS swap 5.3/4l80e/bw4401 4x4. I bought the 92 when I was 17, I'm 38 now, and they'll bury me in this truck. But it does need some love. She's all original and showing her age. When I priced out everything to rebuild, roller cam, ebl flash 2, throttle body stuff, etc.. to get her a little more pep you're spending as much as an LS swap. That's not even including new heads.

It will be anouther month or so before I get my motor and I'm ordering a flip kit tomorrow witch will be here well before the motor.

The other option is the E-rod which someone posted. The cheapest I have seen an LS3 e-rod is $9,100. The LT1 and LT4 are obviously much more. I know of someone who owned a shop that was doing the "gray area" smog checks that everyone seems to think is the way to go.
