You can do this behind the dash by taking off the hood cowl (I think that's what it's called). It has a threaded end so it can be shortened.A, 1965 cockshutt 40, I have a 4020 that ran really well up until November. It starts good , but idles rough and when you put it under load it stalls. If you pull the choke out it will come back to life and run OK. if you feather the choke back in, it will drive around OK in lower gear. Always runs rough and always stalls out under load.5. Inspect and clean screen and magnet in screen. (previous owner said he had one installed in the screen when serviced a few years ago) 6. Refill with new new fluid and install new filter. 7. Reinstall coupling and check pressure and flow from main pump.

Remove the screw, install a plastic line on the fitting and start the tractor. Turn the steering wheel to the RH stop position and open the fitting slowly. Let oil bleed out the line until no bubbles are present then tighten the fitting. Be careful as the steering wheel may jump after the bubbles are gone. Recheck the steering.

I push the starter button and I hear the starter motor turning but the bendix does not engage the flywheel... or it is every so slightly engaging that it doesn't even sound like it's grinding.

Make sure the surfaces are clean and I roughed them up with some really coarse sandpaper so that the JB weld had something to bite. I have had them on for 6 months and so far so good. C.The 4010 and VERY early (IIRC, pre-'65) 4020 tractors DO have a 3rd reverse. The later early models and on only have 2 reverse gears that are sped up. The the early ones, 1st reverse is the same speed as 3rd forward, 2nd reverse is like 5th and 3rd reverse is like 7th. So, 3rd reverse is 12mph.
