I went through the same problem with my Marlin #18. I tried everywhere, and nothing. Finally used what was left of the old one and made one. after all this time, I found a BRAND NEW fireing pin for a model 20, which is exactly the same as the #18.....The one I made works perfectly, but the original is more desired. And the new one cost me $49.00.
2607 posts · Joined 2011. #5 · Apr 16, 2013. I restored my 1891 .32 and was lucky to find an old/new original Marlin barrel from Numrich Arms. I had the barrel chamber reamed to .32 S&W Long. It works perfectly, the only modification was to open the cartridge loading slot on the magazine tube a wee bit to clear the slightly larger diameter.Place a felt-padded machinists clamp between cocking arms on the firing pins (54 and 55) and rear surface of sear box (45). Remove sear box screw (51) and lift away entire sear box assembly to right. 2 Manually trip sears (42 and 43) and slowly open clamp to release tension on firing pin springs.Description. It gives some good basic information on setting up your firing pin: The diagram claims the pin should protrude 0.035" to 0.039" from the face of the bolt. Have a low usage 39A nearly mint except for the fact it has started misfiring. Some times it will fire several shots OK but for the most part misfires are more often than not. Looking at the bases of the unfired rounds shows no sign of the firing pin striking.

The bolt face is recessed to fit the cartridge or case head, about 1/16 of an inch. The firing pin protrudes to a point level with the case surround or about 1/16 inch. Best I can recommend is to call Wisner’s gun parts and talk to them. I “think” the firing pins have been consistent from the early 39a through the 39as. Just do a search of parts by Marlin, then 39A and you should find the parts you need. I'd take down the rifle again, make sure it looks like everybody is in the right place, no obvious new scratching or dings. Sometimes I've had the firing pin try to hang up on the finger lever.
Firing pin fitting was a success. It goes bang every time now. The little rifle is a real joy to shoot. The old ones had a deep notch in the hammer that the trigger would slip into and be safe. The new ones only have a ledge in the hammer that the trigger rests ON, not IN.
