It has no personality or spark, which the original had so much of. This positions itself as the classic dark, gritty reboot, but also as a return to the franchise’s roots. What it really displays, though, is a poor understanding of Godzilla. The original film was melancholic and soulful, an elegiac monster movie with well woven subtext.
