CONS....Must have decent if not EXCEPTIONAL mechanical skills to work on powertrain. Special tools may be needed at times for "hardcore" repairs.

Personally if you want an injected V8, skip right by those two. Story was different a couple years ago and the northstar & aurora were more desireable, but now GM's been making LS2 & LS 3 powered front drivers for a couple years. LS series V8s are the best engine in the junkyards, hands down.
Given that the official recommendation from Cadillac for leaky Northstars is to literally remove the engine from the car and replace ALL seals and gaskets in one operation (and this is a 20-30 hour job depending on which specific YMM), that will get real expensive real fast.As soon as the engines would be in a overheating situation, the bolts would come off like squeezing a ripe banana. It took many years and many pissed customers but they eventually fixed the problem by using longer bolts with coarser threads (same bolts as the LS6, if I remember correctly).
