Dark infusions and chaos infusions will be your most efficient backup, since they get stronger with your stats. Flat element infusions will be close behind too. I'd recommend it for faith / lightning builds and quality builds. If you are playing a 25-30 attunement 40/40 pyromancer, the hyperarmor won't do you much good. You should go with low requirement, fast weapons (chaos / dark estoc, long sword, murky hand scythe, scimitar etc) and of course the demon scar, witch is as OP as pyro weapons get.Pyro works best as a build compliment rather than a build focus. Black flame is crazy strong, can't leave that out of your Arsenal whether you do pve or pvp. For PVE, rapport and fire whip are very nice spells. The Boulder spell is good against shield using units but kinda sucks for pvp. for pvp, the title definitely goes to Fire Surge.

Greatshields have high stability. There isn't much difference between dex and str builds when it comes to pyromancers. Int and faith are clearly better with dex owing to weapon buffs but pyro doesn't have that utility. Pyromancer also starts with low dex so it can work efficiently as a str build.

I'm personally not recommending you to start new game trying to play as pyromancer. Because you should upgrade your Pyromancy Flame (+10) first and then you can play easily.
